Oregon Zoo Lights 2015
Visiting the Oregon Zoo is something that my family and I do many times throughout the year. We love to go in the summer, we love to trick or treat at the zoo for Halloween, and we have an annual tradition of visiting for the ZooLights spectacular during the holidays.
This year we went early in the holiday season and while it was chilly, almost freezing, it was dry. Bundled up in our winter coats, hats, gloves, and scarves we were ready to hit the paths to see the Oregon ZooLights.
We were thrilled to see the train running this year, it is always a favorite of my daughter’s. In years past we have had to wait in long lines at the train stations to board the ZooLights express. This year, the Oregon Zoo began selling times train tickets. Tickets are purchased in half hour windows. We rode standby and had no issues with long waits in line. There are special displays that you can only see from the train but if you do not get a chance to ride the train, 95% of the lights can be seen from the walking path.
One thing we did note was that there were snack and beverage carts a plenty. In years past we had difficulty finding hot chocolate but this year there were snacks and hot cocoa a plenty. For the coffee lovers, Boyd’s coffee has a Fuel Truck open on select nights.
We had a great time this year at ZooLights and will continue to go for years to come. Don’t forget to stop by and pick up some of the special seasonal flavors of fresh fudge in the gift shop. I sampled the butterscotch, which was divine, but ultimately left with a half pound of the Peppermint Bark flavor.
ZooLights runs from November 27, 2015 to January 3, 2016.
ZooLights tickets are valid after 4 p.m. ZooLights hours are 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Value Night hours are 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Grounds remain open for one hour after gates close.
The parking lot adjacent to the zoo is owned by Portland Parks, and fees collected are reinvested to improve Washington Park. Because parking lots fill quickly on busy evenings, visitors are encouraged to ride MAX to the zoo.
